Bringing English to Middle School to Honduras

INTRODUCTION

The students at the Republica De Costa Rica School in the community of san Nicolas Concepcion, Intibucá, Honduras, have problems with English when they go to high school. This problem happens every yearbecause the community does not have enough teachers prepared to teach English class.Bringing English to Middle School students at the Republica De Costa Rica will help the students to improve their knowledge of basic English before going to high school.
BACKGROUND
This problem  affects the students who live in the rural areas because the secretary of education in Honduras does not have to worry about those students, who are living in the rural areas. This mean is that  the secretary of education does not provide, English materials such as  books, levels. Also the ministry of education in Honduras does not require Middle School students totake English class nor do teachers feel forced to teach this class.
PURPOSE OF THE REPORT
The purpose of this project is that students can learn basic knowledge in English. So this way will be easier for them to understand more quickly this class, when they have to go to high school. Also it will help them to have good scores because in high school it is obligatory to pass this class.
Bringing English to middle school classes will be carried out with the Knowledge and support of teachers that are working at the school.  The parents will be the people who will motivate and excite their children to take this class.
SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
This project includes information on the implementation of the English classes in the middle school, the differences between rural education and urban education. It does not include information on how to raise money to teach the student and the government.

BRINGING ENGLISH TO MIDDLE SCHOOL
Honduras does not have a good system of education. This means that not all the schools in Honduras have includes all the classes that the students need to take. Years ago this problem was worse. Now the education system is better, but in the rural areas the schools still have some problems because they do not offer English classes.
Some of the causes that affect the students with lack of English class are:
a)      Teachers do not have knowledge about this class.
b)      Rural areas do not have enough teachers.
c)      Lack of materials.
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN RURAL EDUCATION, AND URBAN EDUCATION
Honduras is divided in to eighteen states. Each stateis divided in to cities, with urban and rural areas.Between those places there exists a lot of difference in the education system. So each of one those places has different levels of education, some better than others.
a)      Urban schools have more teachers than rural areas.
b)      Urban schools have the most access to the internet and other sources.
c)      The majority of the schools in the rural areas have two teachers for sixth grade, but there are other schools that just have one teacher for sixth grades.
STUDENT INFORMATION
Include the following statistics:
a)      The number of studentswho will take this class is 30 students of both sexes.
b)      Seventeen girls and 13 boys age 10 years old and up.
c)      Fifth and sixth grades.

PLAN TO DEVELOP

MEETINGS WITH TEACHERS, AND PARENTS OF THE STUDENTS
The project will begin in July, 2012.The first step to carrying out this project will begin with the teachers by going to the school to have a conversation with the teachers about it. The lead teacher from Republica De Costa Rica School Knows about this project. Then invitations will be sent to the parents of the student to let know them what day, time and location they have to meet .This first meeting will be in the second week of July, where we will talk to parents about the project Bringing English Middle School, and let know them what are the goals, and benefits that their children will receive.
TIME AND LOCATION
The students take their normal classes from 8:30 AM until 2:00PM o’clock. After this time, they are free to go home. But when the project begins   theywill have just 30 minutes break .Then they will return to the classroom and start English class from 2:30 PM to 4:30PM. The duration of this project will be for three months from August to November, three days per week. They will take this class in the same location, which is Republica De Costa Rica School.

The topics will be according to the students’ capacity here are the following topics:
NUMBERS
The first topic that students will take are the numbers from one to hundred. This topic will be covered in one week. They can learn this topic very quickly by writing the numbers in their notebooks, or on the board, using flash card.

The alphabet will be the second topic because if they learn the entire alphabet, laterthey will be able to pronounce words. This topic will be taught almost the same as the number with flash cards. Associated words with animals or something else that have a relation the letters.
MONTHS AND DAYS OF THE WEEK
Students will learnthe months and days through songs where make mention days because they listen to the song, they can continue to repeat, and they could remember more easily. But they need to write in their notebook. Also they will have copies from the OXFORD PICTURE DICTIONARY which contains the months, and days of the week in English and Spanish.
                                               VERBS, PRONOUNS, ADJECTIVES
These topics are a little complicated to understand, butBasic English Grammar (Azar) willhelp with these topics. That means the instructor will use this book as a guide. Also, this book has a lot of practices exercises teachers will make copies from this book, and put the students to practice.

CONCLUSION
This project will help the students to have knowledge in English class when they go to high school. It will help them to have good scores because in the high schoolit is obligatory to pass this class. Also in Honduras the students need to know more than one language. If the people know English, they can find a job more quickly after high school. An English course will help the student to develop their skills and abilities in this class before they go to high school.
